1. Objective
The 2 Danks Street Award for Contemporary Art Criticism has been established by the permanent galleries of 2 Danks Street Waterloo to foster new writing on, and extend discussion about, the visual arts. This award is initially being given for writing about exhibitions at galleries in the 2 Danks Street complex. In subsequent years, the intention is to extend the award to exhibitions in other Sydney based commercial or private contemporary art galleries.

2. Eligibility
The prize is open to new writers with an interest or expertise in the visual arts, including contemporary art jewellery.

3. The task
To write a review of between 1,000 and 1,500 words about an exhibition from a permanent 2 Danks Street Gallery during during June, July or August 2013. Eligible exhibitions will be held at the following galleries:
 Aboriginal and Pacific Art
 Annette Larkin Fine Art
 Brenda May Gallery
 Dominik Mersch Gallery
 Janet Clayton Gallery
 Stella Downer Fine Art
 Studio 20/17
 Syndicate at Danks
 Utopia Art Sydney

4. Judging
Initial entries will be shortlisted by 2 Danks Street Gallery Directors. At least two Directors will assess each entry. The shortlist will be submitted to an independent panel including Candice Bruce, Owen Craven, Pru Gibson and John McDonald

5. Prizes
The winning entry will receive
 A cash prize of $1,000
 Publication in Art For All
 An exhibition review published in the Artist Profile (Issue 24 or 25), content decided in discussion with the Editor.

6. Closing Date
The closing date for entries is 30 August 2013.


TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

1. The review must be an original piece of writing and not previously published online or on paper

2. Entries can be submitted by email or by post.

3. Entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form, signed declaration (either original or scanned) and an entry fee.

4. The entry fee is $10.

5. Multiple entries are acceptable, but a separate entry form and fee must accompany each review.

6. Entries will be judged anonymously. The author's name will not appear on the review provided to the judges.

7. There is no age restriction, but the entrant must be a new writer and not receive a regular income from arts writing.

8. The employees of Danks Street Galleries are ineligible.

9. The closing date is 30 August 2013 . Late entries will not be accepted. Entries postmarked 30 August are acceptable.

10. The winner will be announced on Friday 20 September at 11am at a function at 2 Danks Street.

11. The winning entry will be published in Art for All. The publisher reserves the right to edit the review.

12. The winner will be given a publication opportunity in Issue 25 or Issue 26 of Artist Profile, in discussion with the Editor.

13. Entrants will be notified by email (where possible) of the safe receipt of their entries and the final result. Final shortlisted candidates will be notified before the announcement.

14. If entrants subsequently withdraw their entries, the entry fee will not be refunded.

15. The judges decision will be final. No correspondence will be entered into.

16. 2 Danks St Galleries reserve the right not to award a winning entry.
