Bob Withers "X-Ray City"

23 - 29 November 2009 ... more

Bob Withers - The darkness of night, the element of fire, the shadows cast by street lights, the beauty of city chaos, and the secret stories internalised behind tiny windows - are all recurring themes in the work of Bob Withers. Utilising the urban visual environment of his local area, he weaves images together leaving the fragmented typography on the sides of old buildings to tell the story.

The exhibition 'X-Ray City' is a selection of recent works using oils and water colours on wood and paper.

Please join the artist for drinks on Tuesday the 24th November from 6.30 til 8pm.

Alcaston Gallery 20 Years Survey Show

19 Oct - 1 Nov 2009

To celebrate 20 years of Alcaston Gallery, this survey show at the Depot Gallery @ 2 Danks Street, Waterloo, Sydney, will feature work from some of our most collectable artists.

Alcaston Gallery opened at 2 Collins Street, Melbourne in September 1989. It is with great pleasure we celebrate the last 20 years with this survey exhibition highlighting many of our artists that have contributed to our success. Amazingly, many are considered major artists in Australia now; some sadly have passed away, like the late great Ginger Riley, while others continue to ‘paint up big’ like Eubena Nampitjin, Gulumbu Yunupingu and Sally Gabori. Rising stars like Emily Evans, Lorna Brown Napanangka and Pedro Wonaeamirri continue to quietly be collected by major institutuions and collectors, both here and abroad. Barney Ellaga, a senior law man from South East Arnhem Land creates colour power, and young gun Rupert Betheras already has a strong following of loyal admirers. Paintings by Peggy Napangardi Jones from Tennant Creek adorn many great homes and collections. People just love Peggy’s work – end of story!

Scott Baker / Tally New work - Assemblage and Sculpture

1 - 13 September 2009

Scott Baker looks to the landscape, in particular the rural working landscape of the Darling Downs, Queensland in this exhibition.

The work, in part, explores the vagaries of relying on climate for a living, place and the pressure of mining encroaching on long term agricultural areas.

But above all, it is an exploration of the beauty of the ordinary and the discarded.
